sorry I've been so MIA- I've been so so soooo busy w/ OverOurHeads work. Hand Painting everything and preparing for the reprints. Kickstarter was a wild success and dreams are coming true! For now I'm going to take a hiatus from digital work and focus on OOH until things settle. Cheers everyone!! :)

I made this music video last October for Paramount Studios and Netwerk Music Group. The Weepies totally wrote an amazing song that got placed in the movie Morning Glory- and I'm so lucky to have had the opportunity to create and direct this project. Thanks to everyone who took part in it!! :)

I've had this sketch sitting around foreeeever it seems. Thought I'd chip away at it- low and behold I had fun making it while over caffinating, listening to Passion Pit, and watching Shrek on the screen next to my imac. I work better when overexposed to media- however put me in a shopping mall or department store with all those lights and people: I'm totally useless.
Anyway this is concept art for the business that I'm setting up. More info on that to come.

So I've been working and researching on a project that I'm pretty passionate about- not going to announce it publicly until it's actually finished though- I'm learning that nothing in Hollywood is 'done' until it's in print. So until then- wish me luck. For now- this is a glimpse of one of many pieces. The finish will have the same figure in the belly of a whale.

Wicked Witch Gets It-part 1

So it's been a bit since my last post- I moved a whole mile away from my old place in Hollywood to West Hollywood where the neighborhood is dramatically nicer. Anyway, I was watching the making of the Wizard of OZ and was inspired to try an alternate take on my favorite scene. WHAT IF the munchins said "ef this!" and fought back? This could be the Wicked Witch of the East or West... it's up for interpretation.

as my warmup for the night. Haven't done a self portrait in a loooong time. Not since the 2nd year of college I think. Anyway it shows that I"m a bit rusty at just drawing w/ the tablet pen w/out drawing it in pencil first.

I'm watching Iron Giant as I rev up for an evening of illustration work- it's really a gorgeous animation. The backgrounds are insane! WHY didn't we focus more on backgrounds in college. There should have been a class dedicated to JUST backgrounds.

I guess Mary Poppins is an ongoing theme for me. My second favorite scene from the movie- that was slightly terrifying as a kid- was the cue of grumpy nannies waiting to be let in for their interview. A clever "trick" they did to add more character to these old hags was to dress up a couple of men in nanny garb. Anyway- this is my interpretation. It may be too busy.... I think I might omit the figure or shift them around to make a better composition.

It took a while to not take any time at all.... if that makes sense. Getting around to finishing it was the hardest part and like most of my work- I had a BLAST doing it! Why don't I do more? I'd be having constant fun! But it's like going to the gym... getting to the gym is no fun, but once you're there you get the job done and the results are satisfying.

The moral of the story?- I love this piece and need to get around to making more like it.

So I watch Mary Poppins and Lady and the Tramp every day at my day job. No joke. every. day. And I'm NOT sick of mary poppins- yet. This is my favorite imagery from the movie. a bunch of old professionals being silly and embracing life. So I redrew it my way. I'm going to make a "final" out of it. I can't decide whether I should digitally paint or scratch board it. What do you guys think?

Here's one of my submissions for the Illustration Domination blog. It's not done... I have this aversion/complex with backgrounds. I'll eventually come around and take some time to take out the pencil marks and put in shadow.

For now- say Hi to "Webster". I was thinking about when I was a kid and was never cool enough to have my own super soaker and DOMINATE. So I'm living vicariously through this over protected kid. Yeah... he's a badass.

This is the sad sad sad display of irresponsible art recording. It was a commissioned piece I did for a resident of Boston's South End- This image is an homage to what's left of the gayborhood. By the time I finished it I had packed up my camera and scanner... So I took a picture of it with my phone.

This is a character design for the book I'm currently illustrating. It was really just to get used to repetitive drawing of the same character- as you can see I still have some practicing to do (bottom left is a little chubby). It was pretty fun.

FUN being the key word of this blog- I'm losing steam, which means that I'm drawing every day and I'm not inspired. SO- I need assignments. I decided to make a blog and here are the first additions to the hopefully prosperous family of images. Some old some new.

The "Jaded Warrior" I just did today. I don't have (can't afford) a scanner after I moved to LA- so I held up my sketchbook up to my macpro camera... it's a horrible/ possibly blasphemous way to get an image but I'm bored and desperate to do some work.
